So obviously a lot of slasher films are mixes of these but I’m just curious to hear your thoughts and what other categories you can come up with. Films like A Nightmare on Elm Street, later Friday the 13ths, Child’s Play, Shocker. The Supernatural Slasher - Features a supernatural killer.Films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn, Scarecrows. They have no previous connection to the killers. The Wrong Place, The Wrong Time - The main characters end up in a location/ situation purely off of bad luck or bad choices. It might fit better in the previous category. I’m not sure if a film like the original Friday the 13th fits here as the killer reveal is someone we’ve never seen before. So films like Scream, Happy Birthday to Me, Sorority Row. The Whodunnit - The killer’s identity is a mystery meant to be solved or at least guessed at by the audience. In my mind this covers movies where the main characters (or at least one of the main characters) were involved personally in the event and are now being punished. Stuff like Terror Train, Prom Night, Slaughter High. The Past Comes Back - A tragic event in the past comes back to haunt the main characters. This is what I’ve come up with but I’d be interested to hear what y’all have to say. So recently I got bored and tried to come up with what the different types of slasher movies were.
